CHRISTMAS

The most important festivity in Britain and in the United States of America is Christmas Day.
Children and adults decorate their homes with paper chains, ivy, holly, mistletoe and Christmas trees.

The traditional Christmas dinner always includes roast turkey with potatoes, chipolata sausages, lots of vegetables and Christmas pudding.

Christmas pudding (dolce di Natale fatto con farina, frutta candita, uova, zucchero, uva sultanina, spezie, mandorle e brandy).

This pudding often contains a coin, and it is considered lucky to find it.

On Christmas Eve children go from house to house singing carols, traditional festive songs, to collect money for charity.

Oxford Street Christmas decorations

In the weeks before Christmas, British towns and villages are decorated with illuminations, big shops present special window displays and children write letters to Santa Claus to ask him for presents.

On Christmas Eve, before going to bed, British children traditionally hang up their stockings which Santa Claus fills with presents later in the night. He is said to ride over the rooftops with his sleigh and team of reindeers, and to climb town the chimneys of all the houses with his sack of toys and games, sweets and chocolates.

Some British parents jokingly leave Santa a glass of whiskey and a plate of biscuits by the fireplace before they go to bed.
Interesting, isn’t it?
