Cos’è l’imperativo?
L’imperativo è un modo verbale che si utilizza per esprimere ordini, inviti, preghiere, permessi, consigli amichevoli o per impartire istruzioni.
In inglese l’imperativo di seconda persona, singolare e plurale, assume la forma dell’infinito senza il “to”.
AFFIRMATIVE FORM
La forma affermative corrisponde all’infinito del verbo senza soggetto e senza “to“.
Go! Vai / Andate!
Stand up! Alzati / Alzatevi!
Press the button! Premi il pulsante / Premete il pulsante!
Stop! Fermati / Fermatevi!
Come to the party! Vieni alla festa / Venite alla festa!
Come avrete notato, il soggetto you non viene mai usato. Aggiungete please per rendere le frasi più educate.
Es. Press the button, please. Premi il pulsante, per favore / Premete il pulsante, per favore.
NEGATIVE FORM
La forma negativa si costruisce tramite l’ausiliare “do“, seguito da “not“, solitamente in forma contratta (don’t).
Don’t go! Non andare / Non andate!
Don’t stand up! Non alzarti / Non alzatevi!
Don’t press the button! Non premere il pulsante! Non premete il pulsante!
Don’t stop! Non fermarti / Non fermatevi!
Don’t come to the party! Non venire alla festa / Non venite alla festa!
ALTRE PERSONE DELL’IMPERATIVO
Le altre persone dell’imperativo si formano con il verbo “to let” seguito dai pronomi personali complemento.
Ecco qualche esempio con il verbo “to go“:
Let him/her/it go! Vada / Che vada!
Let us go/ Let’s go! Andiamo!
Let them go! Vadano / Che vadano!
